Mountain Beaver (Aplodontia rufa) and the Point Reyes Mt. Vision Fire! In October 1995, a human caused fire raced through much of the known habitat for the Point Reyes mountain beaver. This fire appears to have destroyed over 50% of the available habitat for this species of concern as well as a significant number of animals in their burrow systems.
